Course Objectives

The Social Sciences Teaching Degree aims to “train Social Scientists with a solid theoretical and methodological foundation based on the core areas that define the course’s identity (Anthropology, Political Science, and Sociology), providing tools to establish connections between research and social practice” (cf. CNE/CES Report 492/2001).

In summary, the objectives of the course are:
(a) to train professionals in the field of Social Sciences, prepared both for professional practice and academic research, with a reflective and critical profile;
(b) to promote integration between the university and the community, especially regarding the extension of educational and formative processes to various social groups;
(c) to train individuals committed to citizenship and social responsibility, capable of disseminating knowledge and encouraging broad participation from diverse social segments.

Accordingly, the Teaching Degree in Social Sciences at UERN aims to prepare versatile professionals equipped for diverse careers in public, private, and non-governmental sectors. The goal is to train individuals with a comprehensive foundational education, enabling them to build careers across different institutions.

The course offers both an extensive intellectual foundation and the development of specific skills, which will be further cultivated during the advanced stages of the program, in line with students’ elective choices.

This intellectual training, capable of providing broad professional qualifications, is supported by a set of curricular components. These core areas of the course allow students to master the discourse, topics, and technologies of Social Sciences—Anthropology, Political Science, and Sociology—as well as gain basic knowledge in related fields such as Philosophy, Economics, Education, Statistics, Languages, and History.

The course seeks to develop professionals with the knowledge and tools necessary to understand:
– social groups, their relationships, sociability, habits, and representations;
– social institutions and their organization;
– political processes, behaviors, and dynamics;
– culture and its values;
– the production and historical role of social, political, and economic institutions, relating them to the practices of different social and political actors.
