  • 1.    The military dictatorship in Brazil that occurred between 1964 and 1985 was a period characterized by political and social transformations, but also by a scenario of oppression, repression and violation of human rights. In this context, literature played a fundamental role in realistically portraying the issues of this period, with the novel As Meninas, by writer Lygia Fagundes Telles, published in 1973, being a highlight in this sense. From this, our objectives are: to analyze the figurations of the military dictatorship based on the memories of the protagonists Ana, Lia and Lorena; identify the forms of oppression resulting from the dictatorial period exercised on the characters and understand the forms of resistance configured in the novel. The research is bibliographic in nature, with an exploratory and analytical approach. To study the historical context and carry out the analysis, our theoretical foundations are authors such as: Adorno (2003), Bastos (2000), Candido (2000), Dalcastagné (2018), Franco (1998), James (2012), Malcolm (2000), Oliveira (2020) and other relevant materials. When analyzing the work, we are led to reflect on the power of literature as a spokesperson and social critic in the face of the events that were happening, the search for freedom and the rescue of civil rights.

  • The most recent studies in the field of Textual Linguistics (TL) have maintained an intrinsic dialogue between textual aspects and argumentation, especially regarding referencing. In this context, considering the importance of dialogue between theoretical aspects for understanding and interpreting texts, as well as for understanding the statements produced, we investigated the interface between referencing and argumentation, seeking to understand how this relationship is established in the field of TL and what are the implications of this dialogue on the argumentative biases of the texts. Thus, the desire to analyze, using referential processes, the object of vaccine discourse and the facts linked to it emerged, discussing, based on the polemical modality, how the argumentative directions around this entity were constructed. Our corpus of analysis consists of tweets published on Congressman Osmar Terra's page, which have as their central reference issues related to the vaccination process against Covid-19 and present anti-vaccine speeches. We collected tweets posted on the parliamentarian's social network over the course of a year. We then carried out the selection for the research, focusing on tweets published in the months of April and May 2022, in addition to January and February 2023, totaling 40 tweets analyzed. This choice was based on the observation of a regularity of referents related to the main issue, in addition to the possibility of analyzing different presidential periods. The work constitutes an exploratory study, with characteristics of qualitative research and a deductive method, and allows us to observe that argumentative marks are manifested through referential processes, such as nominal forms, referential introductions and indirect anaphora. In this way, we investigate referential processes and analyze how objects of discourse are (re)categorized according to the producer's project of saying, revealing, through linguistic choices, the controversial modality. We are based on the theoretical conceptions of Amossy (2017) to understand the notion of argumentation in speeches, as well as the peculiarities of the polemical modality. Expanding the view between argumentation and TL, we follow the theoretical studies of the PROTEXTO group, discussed by Cavalcante and other researchers (CAVALCANTE et all., 2020; 2022). To understand text as a process that is constituted in discourse, we adopted the concepts of Koch (2015a), Fávero and Koch (1988), among other authors, and the studies of Mondada and Dubois (2015), Cavalcante; Custodio Filho; Brito (2014), Cavalcante (2014), Koch (2015b), among other contributions that highlight the importance of understanding referencing as a discursive activity. The study indicates that referential processes are strategic ways of conducting the text's argumentative bias, contributing to the enunciator's purpose of saying. Furthermore, through textual strategies, the features of the polemical modality are delimited, making it possible to observe the dichotomization of theses, the disqualification of the opponent and social polarization.

  • In the fictional production of Valter Hugo Mãe we note the recurrence of characters who are moved inside of the narrative body from love. Starting from that, the objective of this study is to analyze how the love relationships are arranged in the novel O apocalipse dos Trabalhadores (2008), by Valter Hugo Mãe, based on the loving pairs, given that Maria da Graça and Mr. Ferreira experience the feeling of love in a different way from Andriy and Quitéria. We seek, above all, to understand how Eros love is organized, molds and manifests itself in the female characters Maria da Graça and Quitéria. To base our study, other areas of Human Sciences beyond literature were relevant, such as philosophy and sociology, given that philosophical and sociocultural aspects pervade the novel under analysis. We turned to the theorist Antonio Candido (2014), about the character; Miguel Real (2012), Carlos Reis (2005) and Marlise Bridi (2007) to discourse about the contemporary Portuguese novel; Platão (2002), which debates the first theories about the love and its variables; Dennis de Rougemont (1988), and the love in western literature; Julia Kristeva (1988) regarding the absence of the love object and death; Anthony Giddens (1993) and the social impasses as an impacting aspect in love relationships; Stendhal (2007) to understand how love affects the subject who loves and makes him prisioner to the love object.

  • This dissertation aims to analyze the novel Aldeota (1963) under the notion of cordiality, in particular Sérgio Buarque de Holanda's conceptions, in Raízes do Brasil (2014), and Jessé Souza's, in A elite do atraso (2019). In this study, it will be sought, through the itinerary of the main character, Francisco das Chagas, who from humble origins becomes one of the most influential and corrupt businessmen in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará, to show cordiality in his phases and faces, which consolidate him as the “cordial man”. In view of this, in order to analyze this novel, it is necessary to carry out in-depth research on this concept in the literature, as well as in the sociology and history of Brazil, having as a theoretical basis the studies on the formation of Brazilian social thought by Freyre (2006), Buarque de Holanda (2014), Prado Júnior (2011), Couto (1932), Souza (2019) and DaMatta (1936), as well as the studies on Brazilian literature by Candido (2000), (2006) and (2014), Lafetá ( 2004), and (1984), Bosi (2006), Bueno (2015), and about the author Jáder de Carvalho and his work, the studies of Macedo (2019), Montenegro (1953), Leal (2000), Marques (2015), Carvalho da Silva and Cavalcante Carvalho (2013), Parente (2011), among others, whose theoretical studies we use to link the theme addressed to the novel in question. According to the partial results obtained in this research, it is noticeable how Aldeota's narrative contemplates the social issues that involve the studies mentioned above, showing the relevance of this novel, as well as the author Jáder de Carvalho for Brazilian society and literature.

  • This research analyzes didactic collections of Life Project, in order to investigate how discourses about work, present in these didactic materials, are articulated with the neoliberal rationality, which permeates the entire process of curriculum reconfiguration that Brazilian high school has undergone in recent years, especially with regard to the New High School (NEM) and the National Common Curriculum Base (BNCC). As a general objective we seek to analyze the discourses about the work in didactic collections of Life Project, with the intention of relating this discursive production with the functioning of neoliberal rationality. To cover this objective more accurately, we established three specific objectives: (a) to identify the conditions of possibility that make emerge discourses about work in didactic collections of Life Project; (b) describe the production of discourses on work in didactic collections of Life Project; (c) relate the discourses about work in the analyzed collections with the modus operandi of neoliberal rationality. In view of this, we understand that it is pertinent to use the theoretical-methodological perspective of Michel Foucault, more specifically from the archeogenealogical method, which is used to analyze discourses, to taking the speech as an event within the diverse/ different games of power-know-yourself, as Navarro (2020) says. With this, we approach some concepts that lead our look at the analyzed materialities, such as: discourse, enunciation, discursive formation, knowledge and power relations, as well as the theorizations of this philosopher about neoliberalism. In addition to Foucault studies, we seek to reinforce the theoretical framework, mobilizing authors such as Dardot and Laval (2016), Laval (2019), Han (2020), as well as other scholars who deal with the implications of neoliberalism in the educational field and in the world of work, like Antunes (2015;2020), Freitas (2018) Resende (2018), Veiga-Neto (2018), Krawczyk and Ferretti (2019), among others. The research is characterized as descriptive-interpretative documentary nature and follows a predominantly qualitative perspective. The corpus consists of statements extracted from three didactic collections of Life Project, which were approved in the National Program of Book and Didactic Material (PNLD), 2021 edition, namely: I) Walk and Build: life project, André Meller and Eduardo Campos, published by Saraiva; II) Young protagonist: life project, by Gabriel Medina and Maria Clara Wasserman, published by Edições SM; III) Life Project: experiences and possibilities, by Denise Guedes Condeixa, Caio Condeixa Xavier de Oliveira, Rui Condeixa Xavier de Oliveira and Maria Cecília Guedes Condeixa, published by Joaninha. From the analysis carried out and considering those that are in progress in the research process, it was possible to verify that the discourses produced are aligned with neoliberal rationality, because they defend values related to flexibility, resilience and competition, terms that currently enter strongly the business field and are interconnected with BNCC and NEM.

  • The work presented here aims to analyze the types of intertextuality and referential processes in memes created during the government of the President of the Republic, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, in the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the communicative purposes of this genre. For this, we address the types of intertextuality (CARVALHO (2018), taking into account that a text always makes references to other written texts and, in the case of memes, this becomes more evident, because it is a genre that blends between the verbal and the non-verbal. We also analyzed some referential processes such as: recategorization, referential introduction, de dêixis, among others, presented by Brito (2014), Cavalcante (2014), Custódio Filho (2011) and Koch (2002). Specifically, we sought to (I) Identify the construction of the Bolsonaro referent in memes published during the Covid-19 pandemic; (II) Recognize the type of intertextuality present and describe the referential processes employed in the construction of meanings of these texts and, (III) Understand the context of production/duration of these memes on the internet and its relationship with the fulfillment of the intended communicative purposes. Of qualitative nature, this analysis is made of a corpus formed by approximately fifty memes (only ten were selected for the corpus), collected from March to June 2020 on the websites "Gerar Memes" and "Portal Catraca Livre". The partial results point to the existence of both broad and strict intertextualities. In the website "Gerar Memes", the second type was more observed, while in "Portal Catraca Livre", the use of the first type was observed. As for the referential processes, the presence of recategorization and personal and temporal de dêixis was noted. Thus, we realize how important it is to recognize the types of intertextuality and referential processes in emerging textual genres, especially in memes, considering that these texts are created from others and, because they usually belong to a collection, intertextuality is present all the time in this genre (SHIFMAN, 2014).

  • The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the notion of happiness linked to purchasing power in the novel “A Árvore que dava Dinheiro” by Domingos Pellegrini in the light of Marxist literary theory. It also seeks to discuss about the society portrayed in the work from the sociological literary theories and to approach the novel corpus of study in view of the characters' pursuit of happiness, in addition to contributing to studies of the writer Domingos Pellegrini. To carry out this research, we took as a theoretical basis the studies of Adorno (1980), Berman (2007), Lukács (2000), Marcuse (2006), Zygmunt Bauman (1998, 2009), Gilles Lipovetsky (2007), Eduardo Giannetti ( 2002) among others, whose researches discuss the definitions of consumerism, modernity, hedonism, among other concepts necessary to conduct the proposed analysis. It was found that from the sudden increase in purchasing power, the society of Felicidade, the fictional city of the work, starts to show features of a society of consumers. Indeed, consumerism is one of the most evident traits of the narrative. It was seen that in capitalist societies, subjects begin to establish a direct relationship between moments of well-being, success and happiness with economic status. In addition, it was found that there is a relationship between money and the feeling of self-fulfillment, causing a significant transformation in the way of life of the characters, revealing ambitions and aspects of their personality. According to the partial results obtained in this study, it was possible to perceive that the ideal of happiness through purchasing power can become frustrating, considering that in a society of hyperconsumers, the full satisfaction of desires is not possible, generating people obsessed with consumption and They are, therefore, frustrated about reaching the full happiness that seems to be always far away.

  • This paper aims to investigate oral and written texts as communicative events and the production of meaning within the discursive actions of language, from the interface of Textual Linguistics and Law. This approach has special relevance in the legal universe, considering that the acts practiced in the Judiciary are formalized by means of texts, whether oral or written, but they all have a predefined textual form, within an institutional context, aimed mainly at the production of oral evidence, which, as a rule, is transformed into a written text when the judge evaluates it at the time of the judicial sentence. In this context, the objective of this research is to analyze the processes of retextualization and construction of meaning operationalized in the transformation from oral to written, during the hearing of the procedural parties in a hearing, in the oral modality for the written record of statements in the grounds of sentences. This is a qualitative case study, based on the conceptions of Textual Linguistics, specifically with the notions of text and retextualization (DELL'ISOLA, 2007; FAVERO, 1983, KOCH, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2015; MARCUSCHI, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2008, 2010, 2012; MATÊNCIO, 2002) to analyze the retextualization process and the strategies involved in the construction of meanings of a text (sentence), and this, also grounded in oral testimonies collected in the criminal instruction. The research corpus is composed of five criminal actions, in which the statements of the witnesses and victims will be analyzed, as well as the interrogation of the accused, these recorded in video and audios, collected in the scope of the State Judiciary. The analysis of this corpus allowed us to verify that the retextualization undertaken by the judge results in a considerable linguistic and informational reduction in the written version of the depositions, which is also the most formal. The present investigation allowed us to signal the different ways in which meaning is constructed when moving from the typically oral text in question to the retextualized written text, specifically the grounds for sentences, a moment in which the judge uses the evidence to reinforce his decision-making arguments. Thus, it is possible to observe the retextualization performed by the magistrate as a linguistic phenomenon relevant to both Law and Linguistics, considering that such decisions have a direct impact on life in society, especially on the freedom of citizens investigated in criminal actions and also the response that will be offered by the State to the attempts against the safety of individuals.

  • At the end of the first half of the 20th century, Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer developed the concept of culture industry, a movement that promotes the standardization of art and, at the same time, reflects the interests of its producers. In the context of the culture industry, art becomes a commodified work marked by repetition, which is seen in the major media, such as film, television and radio. During the decades of the classical Hollywood cinema, film companies fed the entertainment’s demands with movies characterized by a formulaic language and homogeneity. The classical Hollywood narrative model sustains the capitalist status quo and offers to the art of cinema a pragmatic way to make movies whose seamless style – a term used by Seymour Chatman (1990) – tries to hide the manipulative force of modern rational-technical society, that introduces the ideology of culture industry in films. Despite the dialogue with Western, one of the most influential film genres, Black God, white devil (Deus e o diabo na terra do sol, 1964) and Antonio das Mortes (O dragão da maldade contra o santo guerreiro, 1969) refuse what one might call the genre formula. Directed by Glauber Rocha, these films were made outside the bounds of traditional production, rejecting the standardized narrative form and many of its political implications. Based on these considerations, this dissertation analyzes the way Rocha, using narrative techniques that contrast with industrial procedure, build a particular world where the cangaço – the most famous banditism category in Brazil – is treated as a pre-revolutionary phenomenon. By providing a new view to popular culture, his avant-garde work moves in the opposite direction of nordestern, a Brazilian adaptation from American Western that uses the cowboy’s image as a model to fashion the character of cangaceiro according to the rules of the classical method. In order to understand Rocha’s revolutionary vision of cangaço and the complex syntax of his films, we make use of a large number of theoretical works from multiple areas, as film studies, banditism and popular culture history, and, of course, discussions that follow Adorno and Horkheimer’s initial concepts and Adorno’s further elaborations on culture industry.

  • We propose to reflect, from selected works by Carolina Maria de Jesus, on the representation of realities or effects of realities stimulated by different intertextualities, explicit or disguised, that contribute to the author's literary expression. Carolina departs from her reality to create characters that resemble her and also with characters from works read by her or even characters inscribed in the collective memory. With this articulation of literary writing, it is possible to investigate and understand the game between the intertexts used by Carolina in which representation and reality merge to become a plot. We will analyze intertextuality in the writer's works, taking advantage of the more conceptual contributions of Tiphaine Samoyault, Roland Barthes, Mikhail Bakhtin, Julia Kristeva, Wolfgang Iser and Antonio Candido on intertextuality and the work of fiction, as well as the readings of María Lugones, Aníbal Quijano, Nelson Maldonato-Torres to interact with the most contemporary possibilities of interpretation and re-signification of the writing of Carolina Maria de Jesus. In the context of this foundation and theoretical analysis script, other authors will be added. Finally, this research considers, as a hypothesis, the idea that the life experience of the protagonists of Carolina de Jesus is based on the life experiences of the writer herself, whose world-living operates in the bond of poetic ideality, as a form of evasion or even as a action to face the world, the social reality.

  • Considering that women were, perhaps, one of the first minorities to be socially oppressed and dominated for reasons that are now questionable, it is necessary to establish a historical and social search for the path taken by civilization, from its first structures to the current ones, in order to understand how such domination originated and was naturalized to the point where we witness it today. We set out, therefore, to analyze the power retained for so many centuries in the hands of men, a power that originated in patriarchy, but which had passed through it, becoming a “macho power”, and from which social relations arose. gender imbalances, domination and possession of some over others, which will drag on in family structures and social contracts, as well as in sexual relations. Emphasizing these observations, we focused on trying to understand how gender relations – unbalanced – became one of the pillars of violent intra-family relationships; how violence, especially sexual, has become “natural” between men and women, especially in the institution of marriage, and how the same gender dominations make it permissible for patriarchs to abuse both their wives and also their own children, considering, it is clear that the power of the “macho” becomes a solid amalgamation of all the powers socially given to men in all their occupations: as a husband, as a father, as na individual. So, therefore, our research object consists of three black female characters, by Conceição Evaristo, of which two – Aramides Florence and Lia Gabriel – experienced, in their narratives, experiences of physical and sexual violence committed by their partners, and one – Shirley Paixão – the experience of incestuous sexual abuse committed by her partner against her adopted daughter. Still, if possible, we will try to establish nuances of Dorority (PIEDADE, 2017) experienced or not by the characters in the passage of the narratives; so, rescuing the concept of Dorority that constitutes empathy and compassion among black women through the understanding or understanding of the pains that afflict them. The research, therefore, consists of a bibliographic review, supported by the theories of Saffioti (2015; 1999; 1987); Pateman (1993); Lerner (2019), among others. The partial results achieved previously indicate that the separation between women/victims and husbands/aggressors provides a better quality of life for both the matriarchs and their children.

  • Facing the possibilities of dialogue among fields of knowledge, this work connects the discussion of theories of literary criticism and psychoanalysis, according to what Durão (2016) presents about the possibility of encountering a manifestation of the unconscious in the novel structure. The general purpose of this work was to investigate the non-existence/inconsistency of the Other in the book The heart is a lonely hunter, by Carson McCullers through the narrator. For this, the references used for the discussion of inconsistency or non-existence of the Other will be Lacan (2008c), and the narrative focalization from Gerard Genette (2017). From what has been exposed so far, it was possible to determine that the Other and narrator can occupy the same spot, that is, within the novel the Big Other is the narrator. However, some of the several points of approximation were not explored, which I intend to do in further works.

In the development of the critical reading, we resort to the notion of in-between place, as discussed by Silviano Santiago (2000), and to an understanding regarding the representation of the foreign subject, as analyzed by Júlia Kristeva (1994), seeking to understand how in the dialectic between the familiar and the alien to the character constitute his subjectivity.

  • This thesis investigates the discourses of the educational model of the Integral and Technical Citizen Schools of the state of Paraíba. This research is made from the analytical assumptions of the Foucauldian discursive studies. By this bias, the relations of knowledge-power that engender the production of subjectivities in the webs of the ECI device are problematized. From this perspective, it is understood that the discourses of this educational model established in the state of Paraíba around 2016 emerge from the incursion of neoliberal governmentality in the educational programs of the world, massively composing a curriculum for competences and technical and socioemotional skills in order to constitute protagonist, entrepreneurial and autonomous subjectivities. It is argued that the business tonic is biased in the organizing documents of the ECI Model from the premises of disciplines such as Life Project and Oriented Study, as well as by technical assumptions of entrepreneurial disciplines and technical-scientific curriculum. Thus, the argumentation is based on the reading that Michel Foucault made about neoliberalism and the updates that Christian Laval and Pierre Dardot made on this theme, thinking it especially in the educational field. The thesis then problematizes through the studies of Safatle, Veiga-Neto and other scholars of the Foucauldian work and the archeogenealogy of discourses the means by which one seeks to conduct conduct conduct within the ECIT paraibanas through the discourses of entrepreneurship as a means of building itself, of life project as a way of existence and self administration, as well as the toada around self-management as co-founder of the student subject and flexible worker for the labor market and for the experiences of social transformation.

  • The thesis defended in this work is that “the written productions of deaf students are manifestations of their subjective configurations produced in their contexts of situation and culture”. Thus, the study was guaranteed from the following objective: To understand, from the systemic-functional perspective, how the subjective relationship of deaf students with their written production process is configured. As a way of responding to the proposed objective, this research had as a theoretical plan the theory of Subjectivity by Fernando Gonzalez Rey (1997) and Systemic-Functional Linguistics developed by Halliday (1960), starting from the principle that when producing their writings, the student reveals the context of the situation in which he lives, and the meanings produced along his experiential path in his various contexts. As a contribution to the discussion on the education of the deaf, studies by Damázio (2007), Guarinello (2007), Jannuzzi (2012), Pedrosa (2018), Quadros (1997), Skliar (2016), among others, are used, as well as official documents and legislation. To carry out the study, the principles of Qualitative Epistemology were adopted with the methodological approach of the constructive-interpretive methodology, understanding that the reflection carried out goes beyond the conception of a study that aims to collect data, but to build information/interpretations from the instruments Used formally or informally. In order to answer the central question of the research, which was “How is the subjective relationship of deaf students with their written production process configured, from the systemicfunctional perspective?”, a work was carried out to interpret the writings of deaf students in classes in general education classrooms, from the final and final years of EF and EM, and the conclusion of an English course with teachers of Portuguese teaching in the common teaching room and AEE for the teaching of written Portuguese. The information constructed with the deaf students' writings, evidenced that each student, depending on their level of education, revealed in their writings subjective productions that are produced in their situational environment and the meanings produced in the situations/experiences lived in it. The subjective configurations that are present in the writings, manifest a language of the deaf community, which must be considered in the work with the teaching of written Portuguese, but at the same time, manifest the conditions in which this teaching is or has been carried out, both in common teaching classrooms, as well as in the AEE for teaching PL in the written modality. It was also identified, together with the teachers involved, the absence and/or emergence of training spaces for the teaching of a second language, as well as for the didactic-pedagogical work aimed at the deaf student, which influences the proposition of activities that provide opportunities for the student think about the use and functionality of Portuguese written as an L2.

    Abstract

The dialogue between literature and history has always been fruitful, even before the consolidation of these two fields of knowledge. And it is from this dialogue that the Historical Novel is constituted, genre focused by our research, more specifically those produced in contemporaneity, moment in which its production still persists and is in full expansion. With this assumption in mind, in this work we propose to carry out a critical-analytical study of the works Desde que o samba é samba, by Paulo Lins and Rio Negro 50, by Nei Lopes, in order to investigate the nuances of the contemporary Brazilian Historical Novel. Especially those that, like the aforementioned works, intend to focus on the experiences and histories of politically minority groups, such as black men and women and residents of the periphery, as well as to bring the history of black and Afro-diasporic culture and religiosity, almost always relegated to oblivion by official history, as a way to represent narratives and voices dissonant both from the canon and from traditional Brazilian historiography. In Desde que o samba é samba, the story of the formation of the samba musical genre, of its first school, and of the consolidation of Umbanda is presented. Paulo Lins uses historically-based characters from primary sources and other fictionalized characters to represent the customs and social practices surrounding samba in the São Carlos slum, in Rio de Janeiro, in the mid-1920s. In Rio Negro 50, we get to know the history of black intellectuals, focusing on the narratives of the Afro-Brazilian population, from 1950 to 1960. In this work we base ourselves mainly on the theoretical contributions of Luckács (2011); Weinhartdt (1994) and (2019); Esteves (2010); Bastos (2007); Dalcastagné (2002) and (2012); Souza (2017) and (2021); Bhabha (2019); Sodré (1998); Simas (2019); Candido (1993), (2003) and (2009); Fanon (2008) and Munamga (1988), among others. Therefore, we seek to investigate which elements and trends of these novels represent conformity and/or rupture in relation to the classic model of Historical Romance, whether in terms of the use of discourse and historical facts, or in the way of bringing to the genre a plurality of themes, aesthetic possibilities in the construction of the text, and points of view regarding the types of characters privileged to be represented.

  • This dissertation is the product of a research that focuses on the argumentation in speeches of black women about the local culture in Serra dos Bastiões/CE. Thus, this work starts from the main question: Based on the speeches of black women, which thesis, values, hierarchies and places of argumentation are identified about the local culture in Serra dos Bastiões/CE? Having said that, in order to be able to answer the question, the general objective was traced: to analyze the thesis, values, hierarchies and places of argumentation present in the speeches of black women about the culture of Serra dos Bastiões/CE. Therefore, to carry out this study, one of the main justifications is the contribution not only to the studies of argumentation, research group and future investigations, but for making it possible for the academy to be an instrument that worries about showing the richness of cultural knowledge imbued in society, in its people. Regarding the studies carried out, this writing is based, mainly, in the field of argumentation and in order to consolidate what is proposed, it sought foundation in studies from Aristotle (465 BC); Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (2019 [1958]); Abreu (2009 [1999].); Reboul (2004); Matheus (2018) and Souza (2003). Nevertheless, it should be noted that, since this is a field research and uses the technique of the comprehensive interview, by Kaufmann (2013), it was disposed to anchor the process of constitution of the methodology taking as a basis the method of Oral History, by Alberti (2013). The speakers of the research are evoked through fictitious names: Maria da Fortaleza, Maria do Movimento, and Maria Inabalável, which represent, the second expressions, the meaning of the term Bastiões, a word that names the mountain range in question. As for the results and contributions, we emphasize that every day it becomes essential activities that involve argumentation, since it is of utmost importance for the communication between speaker and audience to take place. In this perspective, it was observed that the speakers, by means of their thesis, can state about the experiences of themselves and of other people in the Serra dos Bastiões/CE of yesteryear and now, which is also possible to understand that besides presenting values, mostly configured in difficulty and suffering, extracted, in a continuous way, from the places of argumentation. In this way, the values served to help in the understanding of the aspects of the local culture in the Serra dos Bastiões/CE, which, in a certain way, it was possible to observe how the work in agriculture is strong, since ever in the locality. It was also observed that the constitution of the speakers' speeches reveals, through their experiences, how the local culture is presented, especially the work in agriculture, ways of thinking and acting in society, through their ways of life, their values and beliefs that help understand the world. Regarding the proposed discussions, we try to make it clear that it is not in the interest of this writing to exhaust and/or promote a definitive conclusion, but to enable paths and dialogues regarding the research.

  • Language is used to meet the needs, whether to interact with others, express experiences or organize messages. Consequently, as the possibilities of human activities are different, there are infinite possibilities for linguistic choices that can be made. Thus, it is the objective of this research to interpret the experiences about Covid-19 expressed in 16 (sixteen) columns published by Atila Iamarino in the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, from the Transitivity System. More specifically, this work describes the most recurrent verbs in the corpus, what processes they perform and interprets the links between these occurrences and the Contexts of Situation and Culture in which the texts are produced. For the interpretation of the samples, the study is theoretically anchored in the concepts and postulates of Systemic-Functional Linguistics, based especially on Halliday and Matthiessen (2014), Fuzer and Cabral (2014) and Thompson (2014), emphasizing the processes of transitivity and in the conceptions of the Contexts of Situation and Culture. In general, the interpretations show that the experiences selected by the writer to construct the discourses are closely intertwined to the micro and macro spaces of production and dissemination of texts, because (I) the verbs selected to perform the processes and their respective participants refer to common sintagmas in the current Situation Context (pandemic); (II) many processes are used as textual technique intrinsic to the column genre, in order to achieve communicative purposes (Context of Culture); and, (III) through the experiences expressed by Atila Iamarino, it is possible that a time travel may take place and knowledge of many pandemic-related events in its spatial and temporal location, demonstrating that (IV) the relationship between text and context is a two-way street: one can start from the text to understand the context and vice versa.
