SUMMARY:

This dissertation aims to investigate the pedagogical possibilities of teaching History through Local History, with an emphasis on the presence and contributions of Indigenous peoples to the historical and identity formation of the municipality of Icapuí, Ceará, Brazil. Based on the scarcity of a systematized local historiography, the difficulties in accessing historical sources, and the still limited presence of Indigenous themes in school practices, this research seeks to bring students closer to the history of their municipality through a didactic proposal that values different sources, memories, and narratives about the local past. The research adopts a qualitative approach, articulating the fields of Local History, Indigenous History, and History Teaching, while also engaging with intercultural and decolonial perspectives. The study begins with a survey and critical examination of the historiography on Indigenous peoples in Ceará, seeking to question narratives that have contributed to the silencing and invisibilization of these populations, and relates this discussion to possibilities for addressing Indigenous themes in the school context. As an educational product, the research proposes the development of an investigative board game aimed at first-year high school students at Escola Estadual de Educação Profissional Jaime da Cunha Rebouças, in Icapuí, Ceará, based on historical events, places, individuals, sources, and material traces related to the Indigenous presence in the municipality. The proposal seeks to combine playfulness, historical investigation, and local knowledge, enabling students to adopt a more active role in the construction of historical knowledge. Through the development of the game, the research aims to contribute to the teaching of Indigenous History grounded in the local reality, valuing Indigenous memories, territories, and continuities, while fostering a more critical understanding of the historical and cultural formation of Icapuí.
