This research project addresses the theme of iconographic representations of the black population present in History textbooks approved in the National Textbook Program (PNLD 2024-2027), adopting as a problem to be investigated the analysis of ruptures and permanence in such iconographic representations. , and as specific questions to be answered: I – understanding the relationships between Decolonial Thought and History Teaching, highlighting its contribution to the iconographic analysis of History textbooks approved in the PNLD 2024-2027; II - the identification and analysis of the permanence and transformations of iconography referring to the black population in two collections approved by the PNLD (2024-2027); and III - the analysis of the uses of iconography proposed by the authors of History textbooks, highlighting the way they represent the black population. The research adopts the methodology of qualitative documentary analysis with a Cultural History approach. The selection of collections that constitute the sources of direct analysis used the criterion of greatest adoption by municipal schools in Fortaleza in the PNLD (2024-2027) according to the website of the National Education Development Fund (FNDE) and totals 16 volumes to be analyzed - eight volumes of the student book and eight volumes of the Teacher's Manual. Our initial hypothesis points to the predominance of a Eurocentric History characterized by a vision marked by the coloniality of Western values to the detriment of the protagonism of the black population in History. Our research falls within the context of the 20 years of validity of Law 10,639/03 and points to the permanent need to analyze textbooks in order to contribute to the promotion of anti-racist education.
