TEACHING HISTORY AND ENVIRONMENT: Experience report at the Ponta do Tubarão State Sustainable Development Reserve
Teaching History. Environment. Environmental Education. Sustainable development reserve. Projects. Experience report.
The Ponta do Tubarão State Sustainable Development Reserve (RDSEPT) is historically located in the heart of a
region marked by the organization of workers from Macau and the surrounding region, who created the well-known Society of Men Who Work in Salt in the early 1890s, for the salt workers, at a time when there was no mention of unions. This context of demanding rights outlines the trajectory of struggles and reactions undertaken by the population of the communities of Barreiras, Diogo Lopes and Sertãozinho, to curb the actions of globalized capitalism and its attacks on the territory of Ponta do Tubarão. The movement to defend the RDSEPT began after news spread in 1995 that a foreign company and Italians had requested the Delegate of the Union's Heritage to lease an area of over 1,300 hectares, located in Ponta do Tubarão. After eight years of seeking rights, creating the Ecological Meeting and mobilizing communities through this meeting, a Decree-Law was drafted, becoming a Bill submitted for voting in the Legislative Assembly, which was unanimously approved, with the presence of more than one hundred activists from the communities belonging to the Reserve. Then, on July 18, 2003, Governor Wilma de Faria sanctioned State Law No. 8,349/16, creating the Reserve. Despite all the activism demonstrated by the population in favor of the creation and implementation of the Reserve, over time, however, there were processes of distancing themselves from this desire to maintain the RDS. In this sense, this research was born from the researcher's contact with the RDSEPT through the work developed as a History teacher at the Municipal School Professora Luzia Bonifácio de Souza in Diogo Lopes, located in the municipality of Macau in Rio Grande do Norte. This research, therefore, has the general objective of analyzing the experience reports of students in participating in the Narradores de Diogo Lopes and Meio Ambiente projects, in addition to the activities developed in the History discipline in the period 2023-2024. The specific objectives are: to analyze the narratives of the Educational Documents in the Ponta do Tubarão State Sustainable Development Reserve; to problematize the representations of the Ponta do Tubarão Reserve for Students of the Professora Luzia Bonifácio de Souza Municipal School and, finally, to prepare a booklet on the importance of environmental heritage for teaching History based on Ilha da Missa. The research methodology is based on the action research methods of Adelina Baldissera, on the assumptions of elaborating an experience report in a scientific way by Ricardo Mussi and on the discourse analysis of Eni Puccinelli Orlandi, which contributed to and in the acquisition of the results.
