SUMMARY:

This dissertation aims to analyze how History teachers from public schools in São João do Sabugi – RN are implementing Law No. 10,639/2003 in their pedagogical practices in the final years of elementary education. To achieve this objective, analyses were conducted based on semi-structured interviews with teachers from the school units, classroom observations and records within the school environment. In addition, a documentary and bibliographic study was carried out concerning the approach to Afro-Brazilian history and culture in education. Based on this, a pedagogical material was developed, as a propositional dimension, in the format of an anti-racistteaching sequence entitled “Voices, Knowledge, and Classroom Practices”, which articulates content, references, and methodological proposals aimed at implementing Law No. 10,639/2003 in the final years of elementary education. The incorporation of African history and culture draws on the active implementation of the aforementioned law, contributing to citizenship education by bringing educational practices closer to institutional discourse and enabling the qualification and improvement of studies involving diverse cultures shaped by historical processes.
