RESUMO:

The research explored the teaching of African History and Afro-Brazilian Culture among high school teachers at the Escola Estadual de Educação Profissional Professora Maria Célia Pinheiro Falcão, in Pereiro, Ceará. The objective was to understand the challenges faced in implementing Law No. 10.639/2003 in the classroom. Using a qualitative approach, the study began with a critical literature review on the coloniality of knowledge and the proposal for decolonization through postcolonial epistemology. It then analyzed the teachers' educational practices through questionnaires and school documents. Divided into three chapters, the work discussed affirmative policies since the 1980s, anti-racist laws, and the challenges imposed by the New High School curriculum. It also proposed a constructive dialogue with History and Geography teachers to improve the teaching of African history. As a practical contribution, the pedagogical project "Revaluing Knowledge: Teaching Afro-Brazilian and African History and Culture at Escola Estadual de Educação Profissional Professora Maria Célia Pinheiro Falcão" was presented. This projectaims to enrich the knowledge of the institution's teachers, promoting a deeper and more inclusive understanding of cultural and historical diversity, and empowering them to critically and reflectively address the contributions and challenges of Afro-descendant cultures in the formation of Brazilian society. The research seeks to foster debates and improve educational practices, reaffirming the commitment to promoting a more inclusive education that respects cultural and historical diversity. The conclusion highlights that collaboration between universities and schools is essential to creating spaces for reflection and improving teaching practices. Additionally, the resilience of teachers in facing challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, exemplifies their ability to adapt and innovate in education. These efforts are crucial to advancing towards an education that values and respects all cultural identities and histories, ensuring a truly inclusive and equitable school environment.
