This research investigates the trajectory of the Regional Studies discipline in the municipality of Jaguaruana-CE, focusing on its implementation, the production of teaching materials and the pedagogical practices adopted. It is based on the assumption that teaching local history is essential for the valorization of cultural identities and for the formation of a eritical historical consciousness, as defended by Bittencourt (2008) and Riisen (2001). The methodology adopted combines documentary analysis, bibliographic review and field research, seeking to understand how the discipline was received and applied in the school context. The preliminary results indicate that, although the discipline has the potential to promote critical and inclusive history education, its implementation still faces challenges, such as the need for greater articulation between the national curriculum and local demands, in addition to investments in the continuing education of teachers
