SUMMARY:

The stories they don't tell you: writings from the Integrated School 2 de Maio are an ethnographic-based case study based on my experience as a history teacher in a school linked to the state education network of Fortaleza-CE between the years 2010 and 2025. From the reflection on the role of racism and colonialism in the daily life of the school community, as well as from the analysis of the resistance to these wounds, the research pursued the following question: when silenced social subjects are stimulated to express themselves, what do they tell us? When the school community tells its own story - its writings - when local history is brushed against the grain, what submerges from the depths? What narratives will we find? In this way, the research focuses on dozens of reports from the school community, produced in the format of chronicles or poems by students, former students and the author of the research. It is a study produced from the so-called participant observation, where there is an intense degree of interaction between the researcher and his object. The research is situated in the framework of the celebration of twenty years of struggle for the application of Law No. 10.639/03, responsible for including in the official curriculum of the education networks throughout the country, including Higher Education, the mandatory theme "Afro-Brazilian History and Culture". As well as in the framework of the celebrations of the fifty years of resistance of Hip Hop culture. From the artistic productions, I focused on the various faces of urban violence that surrounds the school, on the permanences of a daily colonial violence. The stories they don't tell you, when told, showed us the relationship of the school community with death, with compromised mental health, with oppression and pointed to the possibility of resistance articulated by the socialization of experiences, the resignification of the place and the sharing of authority. The silenced were able to confront an official history produced and legitimized by a white elite from their own version of everyday life, from their own writings, from the understanding of themselves as a historical subject. At the end of the research, we will deliver to the school library a Digital Diary of stories, memories and affections with the set of artistic manifestations produced by the school community during the study and we will organize an event to launch the material.
