RESUMO:

This research is inserted in the field of discussion and reflection about the association between Comics and the production of historical knowledge, having the Afro-Brazilian religion known as Candomblé and the Orishas’ Mythology as central themes of the analysis. Historically in Brazil, the African origin religions have been victims of representations that contribute to their marginalization and criminalization, depriving them of the popular view of their cultural and sacred character, which makes them a sensitive theme to be addressed in classroom. Therefore, we highlight that the use of comics in classrooms becomes a teaching resource that favors History teaching and instigates of historical awareness regarding the Afro-Brazilian culture among our students. For this purpose, we evince the dialogues that we established with the action-research method Tripp (2005), Thiollent (2011) and the class-workshop model by Barca (2006) that offered us strategies and action plans during our research process. The analysis of the comic book “Tales of the Orishas” by Bahian designer Hugo Canuto, has allowed us to know important characteristics of Afro-Brazilian culture and religiosity, considering their relevant aspects in the present time, giving new meaning to concepts and fighting against prejudice. The historian, as an educator in classroom, must necessarily contribute to the practice of reflection and the debate that excite critical and analytical thinking on students about the world around them, becoming their own knowledge builder agents. Finally, we hope to contribute to the learning about the Afro-Brazilian religions, especially Candomblé and provide strategies that enable its approach in History classes, through the use of Comics.
