RESUMO:

Objective:
To longitudinally analyze angular changes in the eruptive trajectory of
canines, first and second maxillary premolars, in patients with and without palatally
displaced canine (PDC), according to the stage of dental development. Materials and
Methods: Cross sectional, retrospective study, based on the radiographic analysis of
an online database. The sample consisted of 75 hemiarches from 39 patients who had
at least two sequential panoramic radiographs, the first one in mixed dent ition phase
and the final one at the minimum age of 10 years. The regions evaluated were divided
into two groups: WITH and WITHOUT PDC. The angular measurement of the long axis
of the dental elements in relation to the midline and the evaluation of the sta ge of dental
development were performed. The paired t test was used for the comparison of
intragroup angular measurements, and the t tests and ANOVA One Way for the
intergroup comparison. Values of p ≤ 0.05 were significant. Results Canines with
palatally displaced canine did not alter the angular mea significantly, while canines
without the eruptive disorder significantly reduced n the angular mean in the observed
period. In the intergroup evaluation, canines with eruptive disord er presented angular
means significantly higher than canines without the disorder in the final radiograph .
and in the development stage "E" the maxillary canines with ectopic eruption showed
more angled than those that do not present alteration of trajectory. Conclusion:
Canines with ectop ic eruption do not verticalize in the same way as canines without
eruptive disorder. Angular differences between canines with and without ectopic
eruption are noticeable from stage E of dental development.
