RESUMO:

Population aging has brought important changes to the Brazilian demographic profile, generating challenges that have enabled the creation of laws and policies that guarantee the rights of elderly people in Brazil. The present descriptive study with a qualitative and quantitative character aimed to analyze nursing care for elderly people in the Family Health Strategy (ESF) in Alto Sertão da Paraíba, member of the 9th (ninth) Regional Health Management of Paraíba. The sample was presented by 26 (twenty-six) nurses who work in the ESF, 03 (three) health secretaries and 38 (thirty-eight) elderly people from the municipalities of Cachoeira dos Índios, Cajazeiras and São José de Piranhas, who answered a semi-structured interview, as well as secondary data obtained from databases of official bodies in the selected municipalities. The preliminary qualitative results of the study were developed using the N-Vivo software and the quantitative data related to nurses, extracted from CNESNET (2024), through percentage data, allowing preliminary observation that the nursing actions for the elderly in the FHS indicated by nurses, health secretaries and elderly people from the three selected municipalities are basically Hiperdia and home visits. We also realized through the answers provided by the participants that there is no specific program and continuing training courses and external permanent education for health care for the elderly, as recommended by PNSPI, allowing us to conclude that the Family Health Strategy program (ESF ) in Alto Sertão da Paraíba faced difficulties regarding resources, actions, training and partnerships to offer quality nursing care to elderly people.
