RESUMO:

The work presented here aims to analyze the types of intertextualities and referential processes in memes created during the government of the president of the republic, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, in the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the communicative purposes of this genre. For this, we approach the types of intertextualities (Carvalho (2018), considering that a text always makes references to other written texts and, in the case of memes, this becomes more evident, as it is a genre that mixes between the verbal and the non-verbal, and we analyzed some referential processes such as: recategorization, referential introduction, deixis, among others, presented by Brito (2014), Cavalcante (2014), Custódio Filho (2011) and Koch (2002). , we seek to (I) Identify the construction of the Bolsonaro referent in memes published during the Covid-19 pandemic; (II) Recognize the type of intertextuality present and describe the referential processes used in the construction of meanings of these texts; (III) Understand the context of production/duration of these memes on the internet and their relationship with the fulfillment of the intended communicative purposes. Of a qualitative nature, this analysis is made of a corpus formed by approximately fifty memes (being only ten were selected for the corpus), collected between March 2020 and March 2022 on the “Gerar Memes” website and on the “Portal Catraca Livre”. Partial results point to the existence of both broad and strict intertextualities. On the site “Gerar Memes”, the second type was observed, whereas on the “Portal Catraca Livre”, the use of the first was observed. As for the referential processes, the presence of recategorization and personal and temporal deixis was noted. Thus, one can see how important it is to recognize the types of intertextualities and referential processes in digital textual genres, especially in memes, considering that these texts are created from others and, because they generally belong to a collection , make intertextuality present all the time in this genre, (Shifman, 2014).
