The inexistence of the Other and point-of-view in The heart is a lonely hunter
Carson McCullers. Incommunicability. Jacques Lacan. Other.
This work intends to intertwine the theoretical discussion of literary criticism and
psychoanalysis, according to what Durão (2016) regards the possibility of encountering a
manifestation of the unconscious in the structure of the novel. The general objective of this
work is to investigate the non-existence/inconsistency of the Other in the work The heart is a
lonely hunter, by Carson McCullers. For this, Lacan (2008) and Felman (2020) will be used
as references for the discussion about the inconsistency or non-existence of the Other, as well
as the narrative focus of Gerard Genette (2017).
