More recent studies in the field of Textual Linguistics (L)L have maintained an intrinsic dialogue between textual aspects and argumentation, especially with regard to referencing. In this context, considering the importance of the dialogue between the theoretical aspects for the understanding and interpretation of the texts, as well as for the understanding of the utterances produced, we investigated the interface between referencing and argumentation, seeking to understand how this relationship is established in the field of TL and what are the implications of this dialogue on the argumentative biases of the texts. Thus, the desire arose to analyze, based on the use of referential processes, the vaccine discourse object and the facts linked to it, discussing, based on the polemical modality, how the argumentative directions around this entity were constructed. Our corpus of analysis consists of tweets published on Deputy Osmar Terra's page, which have as their central reference issues related to the vaccination process against COVID-19. We selected the tweets for a period of one year and emphasized the analysis in publications of four months, from the observation of a regularity of referents linked to the main issue, as well as the fact that the cut allows the analysis of different presidential periods. The work constitutes an exploratory study, with characteristics of qualitative research and a deductive method, and allows us to observe that argumentative marks are manifested through referential processes, such as nominal forms, referential introductions and indirect anaphoras. In this way, we investigate the referential processes and analyze how the discourse objects are (re)categorized according to the producer's saying project, revealing, through linguistic choices, the polemical modality. We base ourselves on the theoretical conceptions of Amossy (2017; 2018) to understand the notion of argumentation in speeches, as well as the peculiarities of the polemical modality. Broadening the view between argumentation and TL, we follow the theoretical assumptions of the PROTEXTO group, discussed by Cavalcante and the other researchers (CAVALCANTE et all., 2020; 2022). In order to understand the text as a process constituted in the discourse, we adopted the concepts of Koch (2015), Fávero and Koch (1988), among other authors, and in the studies of Mondada and Dubois (2015), Cavalcante; Custodio Filho; Brito (2014), Cavalcante (2014), Koch (2015), among other contributions that highlight the importance of understanding referencing as a discursive activity. The study indicates that referential processes are strategic ways of conducting the text's argumentative bias, contributing to the enunciator's purpose of saying. In addition, through textual strategies, the figures of the proposer and opponent are demarcated, and the dichotomization of theses is observed, revealing traces of the polemical modality.
