The inexistence of the Other as point-of-view in The heart is a lonely hunter
Literature. Psychoanalysis. Focalization. Delirium. The heart is a lonely hunter.
Facing the possibilities of dialogue among fields of knowledge, this work connects the discussion of theories of literary criticism and psychoanalysis, according to what Durão (2016) presents about the possibility of encountering a manifestation of the unconscious in the novel structure. The general purpose of this work was to investigate the non-existence/inconsistency of the Other in the book The heart is a lonely hunter, by Carson McCullers through the narrator. For this, the references used for the discussion of inconsistency or non-existence of the Other will be Lacan (2008c), and the narrative focalization from Gerard Genette (2017). From what has been exposed so far, it was possible to determine that the Other and narrator can occupy the same spot, that is, within the novel the Big Other is the narrator. However, some of the several points of approximation were not explored, which I intend to do in further works.
