Speech and writing are two units belonging to the communication process from a formal/situational perspective, with the latter making the use of language a manifestation, making the constituent particularities of the language available. From this perspective, the historical, cultural and semantic pragmatic factors of subjects who use the language for a communicative and interactive purpose are considered. Observing that speech is contextualized and integrated into the linguistic system, just like writing, this research, through the speech of remnants of Portalegre/RN, aims to analyze the use of the conjunctions “but”, “because”, “and”, “because” and “if”, so recurrent in the conversations of quilombolas in the communities of Pêga, Arrojado and Engenho novo. More specifically, the objective is to see how the internal and external relations of these conjunctions occur and, with this, through 10 excerpts chosen for analysis, to show that the interaction takes place through a dynamic language, given that the lexicon grammatical attributes semantic-discursive meanings, which do not refer only to one form, such as, for example, connecting dependent or independent meanings (as conjunctions are explained), as prescribed in most Normative Grammar (GN) manuals. In this sense, it is necessary, from the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics (LSF) and/or Systemic-Functional Grammar (GSF), to address which semantic patterns arise from relationships occurring in a situational and cultural context, which belong to an organized system in a varied way, responding to the needs of speakers, in a process of interaction of exchanges linked to use and context. The corpus, therefore, is the material The speech of Remanescent quilombolas of Portalegre in Brazil from the year 2011, the result of an interview with 06 surveys, an occasion in which the quilombolas report their experiences and stories of personal life, religion and local politics. In the transcription, there is data relating to the interviewees, namely: age, name, sex, level of education, among others. This research deals with the analysis of six surveys, cuts to remove the most frequent conjunctions, and, thus, understanding that their relationships start from metafunctions: ideational, interpersonal and textual, with an emphasis on ideational, in order to observe that the sentence and the meanings of opposition, explanation, consequence, additional and expectation found interrelate with participants, processes and circumstance, composing the message into events. To this end, the research is supported by Halliday and Matthiessen (2014), Mendes (2010-2016), Martin and Rose (2007[2003]), Neves (1997-2011), Vian Júnior and Mendes (2015). Furthermore, this is a qualitative and quantitative research, because, in addition to discussing the phenomena that occur in conjunctions, according to the situations of use, it is necessary to quantify the number of times that a single conjunction presents internal and external relationships. Therefore, initially, in the face of theoretical studies, it is inferred that language is not disconnected from use, like conjunctions, and it is important to understand its relationships with events capable of being discussed in a semantic-discursive bias and, thus, realize that such linguistic elements can be analyzed beyond lexicogramatical aspects and logical meanings, in a conceptualization and/or classification of morphology and syntax governed by rules.
