FOR EACH ARCHETYP AN ANARCHY: THE CONSTRUCT OF PROTAGONIST CHARACTERS OF VIDA E MORTE DE M. J. FONZAGA DE SÁ, BY LIMA BARRETO.
Lima Barreto; literature and Society; novel; character.
Through literature it is possible to enter the historical and social context of a given society. In his literature, Lima Barreto presents us with a social portrait of Brazil at the beginning of the 20th century, a period marked by the beginning of the First Republic, a country that had just emerged from slavery, with strong traces of slavery and a series of social problems, and it is in this context that Vida e Morte de M. J. Gonzaga de Sá (1919) is written. Through the vision of the novel's two main characters, the author exposes and challenges the society of his time. For this reason, this work aims to analyze the construction of the protagonist characters Augusto Machado and Manoel Joaquim Gonzaga de Sá, through the theoretical perspectives of Antonio Candido (2009), György Lukács (1968a), (1968b) and Mikhail Bakhtin (2015), in addition to using Osman Lins (1976), Sergio Buarque de Holanda (1995), Cândido (1998) and Nelson Coutinho (2011) so that we can understand a little of the social context portrayed in the novel. In this way, the aim is to investigate the social construction of the protagonist characters, reflecting on their outlook within the novel and considering the social context in which they are inserted.
