RESUMO:

This research seeks to analyze the diffusion process and performance of supermarket and cash-and-carry networks in the city of Pau dos Ferros (RN) (2000-2020). city located in the west of Rio Grande do Norte. The city of Pau dos Ferros presents itself in the region with a leading role for concentrating establishments providing specialized services, as well as for having a quantity and diversity of businesses. The research will be explanatory, as its central problem is the identification of factors that determine and contribute to the diffusion and performance of supermarket chains in the production of urban space in the city of Pau dos Ferros. Thus, this work seeks to identify the factors that have contributed to the production of urban space in this city in the period 2000 to 2020, being verified in this period, the arrival of the main supermarket chains and wholesalers. With the development of this work, we hope to contribute in the academic field by bringing to the discussions about the modernization of food retail, the arrival of large supermarket and wholesale retail chains.
