RESUMO:

The gender debate in the countryside is an issue that deserves to be highlighted, given the high disparity in relationships, ways of working, access to public policies and management. The general objective of this work is to understand how the process of social organization of rural women workers has enabled their role in the productive space of family agriculture in the rural area of the city of São Miguel/RN. The research locus was the Union of Rural Workers of São Miguel/RN. For the materialization of this study, a qualitative approach was used, with a field study, combined with the bibliographic and documentary base, giving support to the theoretical and conceptual construction of the investigation. As a collection instrument, direct observation and semi-structured interviews were used, with open questions, aimed at workers associated with the Union and at the institution's employees. For data analysis, descriptive and interpretive analysis was used as a technique, with the purpose of presenting, deepening and elucidating the interviewees' statements. The survey results show engagement of rural workers in the Union, however, this participation takes place from the link through benefits and/or credit lines. In the organizational process, there is no mobilization or articulation around the development of affirmative public policies for women, specifically. It is still necessary to move forward and promote initiatives in this sense, even if involvement occurs, the movement is not actually enabling workers to mobilize around their collective needs.
