RESUMO:

The general objective of this work is to evaluate the occurrence of natural disasters associated with intense and extreme rainfall events in the Immediate Geographical Region of Cajazeiras/PB between the years 2003 and 2021. For this objective to materialize, it is necessary to carry out a climate characterization of the Region Immediate Geographical of Cajazeiras/PB using precipitation data, considering annual scales and also daily events; to choose the standard years for the analysis of the rhythm of the rains and the atmospheric systems that produce the types of weather; verify the types of natural disasters in the cities studied and associate them with socio-environmental vulnerability (regional geomorphology and social indicators of urban space); assess the damage caused by natural disasters triggered by the extreme events detected according to their magnitude. The work to be developed through this project will be of a quantitative type, that is, it will be based on quantifiable data obtained in a secondary way through the sites that provide data for scientific research in the region under study. In this sense, through the data obtained, the analysis will be of a descriptive and explanatory approach, that is, the description is complemented by the explanation, of the natural phenomena - in the case of rains, specifically - to the detriment of the social conditions and impacts generated in the events of heavy or extreme rain. In the matter of method, the paths of the deductive method will be followed. Preliminary results already show that natural disasters are concentrated in the central portion of the region, with sporadic events as they approach its periphery. However, it is still necessary to visit the field and obtain more data to confirm this statement.
