RESUMO:

The environmental impacts arising from the disorderly generation of Solid Waste (SR)
raise numerous concerns, due to the high levels of production as a result of exorbitant
global consumption. In view of this, environmental and socioeconomic problems arise,
which are aggravated by the inadequate final disposal of RS. The research is justified
because it is a subject that compromises environmental safety, since it generates
consequences such as air, soil and water contamination. Moreover, they can be
disease transmission vectors which directly impact public health. As it is a worrying
topic, the study of RS management is relevant, there is little research on the reality of
small municipalities in the Brazilian semi-arid region. We seek to answer the following
guiding question: how is solid waste managed at the transshipment station at Riacho
da Cruz – RN? In view of this, the study will have the general objective of analyzing
the Environmental Management of Solid Waste at the transshipment station in the city
of Riacho da Cruz in the Alto Oeste Potiguar. It will use a quali-quantitative approach
as a method and will have the case study as a research design. The study area will be
the transshipment station located in Riacho da Cruz - RN, composed of eight
municipalities that will compose the landfill region of Pau dos Ferros - RN. At the end
of the research, it is expected to carry out a collection of data on the environmental
impacts of the final devices of RS in these locations, carry out a diagnosis of RS
Management, identify and know the environmental perception of local actors and
propose Environmental Management actions.
