RESUMO:

This project aims to discuss masculinities in the backlands of Rio Grande do Norte in the territory of Pau dos Ferros/RN through a perspective on public policies and territorial dynamics, having crossings of psychoanalytic reading. This proposition was asked due to the discussion of gender being a current and highly relevant topic and the need to expand the debate, it concerns discussions of gender and sexuality, where historically and culturally constituted structural machismo predisposes a binary and heteronormative bias in which men are placed in a position of dominance in relation to women, denying other gender existences and any expressions of sexuality that do not meet the standard, and delegating to men a place of distance from sensitive and caring practices, demanding them to reproduce the virile, strong, and sometimes aggressive stereotype. Four theoretical articles were developed that incorporate the chapters of this dissertation project, which are entitled: “The place of masculinities in the social link: from concept to praxis - an integrative literature review”; “Men's health: neglect of care, and lack of implementation of PNAISH”; "Masculinities, unemployment and violence against women based on the social notion of provider"; and "(Re)thinking the northeastern backlands: the social imaginary and the implications for gender relations". In this way, the general objective is: to discuss gender and masculinity narratives in the backlands of Rio Grande do Norte in the territory of Pau dos Ferros/RN ; and specifically: Debate the social crossings of gender, masculinities and the subjectivity of the backlands ; Analyze the National Policy for Comprehensive Men's Health Care (PNAISH) Investigating the impacts of the sexist social structure on masculinity health care; and Analyze the experiential narratives of masculinities in the backlands of Pau dos Ferros/RN. Methodologically, a qualitative research is proposed, of a descriptive and exploratory nature, through literature reviews in the theoretical chapters, and field research in the results and discussions, which facilitates contact and aims to collect masculinity narratives in the territory of Pau dos Ferros /RN, investigating its impacts and consequences. Through a semi-structured interview that presents a preliminary script but allows the researcher to adapt and capture more information. The data obtained will be qualified through discourse analysis, categorizing the interviewees' statements according to similarity and thematic affinity, listing the main aspects mentioned during the interviews according to the theoretical links found. Finally, the research sample will consist of approximately 20 people who identify themselves as men, aged between 25 and 59 years, residing in Pau dos Ferros, present in the areas of health and education as professionals or users, with 5 participants health professionals, and 5 from education, and 5 participants being users of health services in Pau dos Ferros, and 5 higher education or postgraduate students, aiming to provide opportunities for a diversity of narratives. The choice of fields is due to the fact that they are spaces of care, a condition in which it is assumed in this writing that men do not commonly access them frequently, and have conflicting and negligent aspects with care.
