RESUMO:

The oil industry is responsible for a large share in the energy matrix, however, during oil production, produced water is also produced. This water has a complex composition and high volumes of this pollutant are generated. Therefore, when discarded inappropriately, it can cause some environmental problems, such as water contamination by heavy metals, causing damage to the health of living beings. Furthermore, this effluent is also a problem on an industrial scale, since managing this water results in considerably high costs, which represent a significant percentage of production costs. Therefore, several processes are used to treat this effluent, among which the adsorption process stands out, as it is efficient in treating water contaminated by oil, heavy metals and other toxic substances. Among the adsorbent materials, zeolites stand out as they have a large ion exchange capacity and adsorption power for metal cations, in addition to being fast and low-cost synthetic materials. Therefore, the objective of this work was to develop zeolitic materials and apply them to the treatment of water produced from the company Potiguar located in the city of Mossoró – RN. The zeolites LTA, Y and sodalite were synthesized by hydrothermal treatment, while the natural zeolite Clinoptilolite was provided by the company Celta Brasil. The zeolitic materials were characterized by the techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), to determine their structural, thermal, chemical and morphological. In addition, the produced water was collected, which also underwent physical-chemical analyses. According to the results obtained, it was observed that the adaptation of the Y zeolite synthesis was promising, as the material was obtained in just 48 hours of synthesis. The crystalline and morphological structures of zeolites were confirmed, respectively, through XRD and SEM. The Si/Al ratio was within the standards found in the literature and the TG/DTG curves were also in accordance with what was expected for each material. While the water produced demonstrated results superior to the limits allowed by CONAMA resolutions, mainly for the analyzes of Oil and Grease Content (TOG), Total Hardness and Chloride. Therefore, it is expected that the adsorbents will obtain good results in the treatment of these water samples.
