RESUMO:

This work aims to investigate how the climate and the land cover around the Santa Cruz do Apodí reservoir, located in the municipality of Apodí/RN, vary over time and its relation with the fish diet. Climatological data provided by INMET were used, collected at the EMPARN physical station with precipitation and temperature data. Satellite images from different orbital sensors were used, the Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) to extract land cover data and the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) to extract the water surface area of the reservoir. To obtain the fish diet data, quarterly collections were made in the years 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 and the stomach content was identified at the lowest possible taxonomic level and, finally, for the process of quantification of the stomach content, the food index (IAi) by Kawakami and Vazzoler (1980). The results demonstrate that changes in the precipitation regime, mainly in 2013 and the first quarter of 2017, combined with relatively constant temperatures, caused the volume of the Santa Cruz reservoir to reach levels well below the average of its capacity. Analyzing the trend graphs, it was observed that the water surface area presented the same aspect as the reservoir volume. The periods in which the precipitation reduced and the temperature increased, the land cover data showed an increase in the areas of exposed soil and a reduction in the areas of dense vegetation and undergrowth. However, in periods of high precipitation and low temperatures, the vegetation categories showed a positive response and consequently the exposed soil areas reduced.
