Human attitudes have caused major environmental impacts as a result of increased consumption of natural resources. Environmental Education (EA) is a basic tool to minimize socio-environmental problems, by making human beings aware of the consequences of the unrestrained exploitation of natural resources. In Brazil, EE is regulated by laws, which determine its interdisciplinary and transversal character. However, not all teachers are aware of the transversality proposal, and those who are, are not all willing to work in this perspective, bearing in mind that many teachers did not have the opportunity for initial or continuing training that addressed the theme of EA, remaining the gap that is proposed by the guiding documents of education to work with EA. Therefore, this work aims to develop teaching strategies through the elaboration of didactic materials for the implementation of EE. The research sought relevant aspects of reality, centered on the understanding and explanation of social dynamics, in this context, it presents itself with a qualitative approach. For that, the methodological procedure used was participatory research, carrying out an intervention at the Escola Estadual Padre Bernardino Fernandes, initially with the teachers who teach the curricular subjects from the 6th to the 9th year of Marcelino Vieira-RN, later, it was worked, in a partial way, with the students of an 8th grade class. For data collection, the following procedures were carried out: a semi-structured questionnaire to identify the teachers' perceptions about the challenges in working with EE; Word clouds to diagnose students' prior knowledge. In addition to these techniques, participatory observation will be part of the research data collection, but so far it has not been carried out, due to some didactic materials, such as: magazine of EE activities, conceptual booklet, memory game having been elaborated, however , not applied. In addition, it will integrate the construction of a model collectively and interactively in the classroom with the didactic materials. At the end of the application and construction of each material, an evaluation will be carried out in order to verify the performance and consent of the students in relation to the use of the materials. For the analysis of the results, Bardin's content analysis technique was used. According to the partial results, it was found that teachers understand the importance of developing EE activities in the school context, but 80% of the researched public, work EE only, through projects, science fair or commemorative dates, compromising the function established by the guiding documents of education, which establish that EE must be worked on in a continuous, permanent, integrated and interdisciplinary way, allowing students to acquire the knowledge, skills and values needed to face environmental challenges. Among the challenges listed by the teachers is the lack of initial and/or continuing training, as well as the lack of adequate materials to work on the theme, such as the time to prepare classes and build materials. Regarding the students, it was noticed that most of them had contact with EE at some point in their student life, thus, they demonstrated understanding about environmental problems, therefore, they showed interest in developing and participating in practical EE activities. At the end of the development of the research, it is expected that the elaborated materials can contribute with the teachers as methodological strategies and with the students, it is hoped that they can understand the importance that small attitudes can generate great actions.
