The National Postgraduate Program (PNPD), as an integral action of the human resources education and training policy instituted by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Level Personnel (CAPES), constitutes an institutional granting program for financing postdoctoral practices in Postgraduate programs stricto sensu recommended by CAPES.

The objectives of the PNPD / CAPES are the following:

I - promote the completion of high-level studies;
II - strengthen national research groups;
III - renew the cadres of Graduate Programs (PPGs) in higher education and research institutions;
IV - promote the insertion of Brazilian and foreign researchers in postdoctoral practices, stimulating their integration with research projects developed by the Postgraduate Programs in the country.
